And The Rains Came

How was it for you last night? Did the house or apartment you are living in get flooded or was it effectively water proofed.

It’s funny how little we think about the rain in Dubai, but when it comes it’s always a major surprise and for those whose homes are porous it becomes a major clean up operation. Buckets, newspapers (great for soaking up the water), sponges and clothes need to be at hand.

Newly built property have poor finishings

First time it happened to me I was living in a place where the landlord had decided to take a short cut and not water proof the roof, so when the rains came, the water flowed down the hall. In fact the water gushed straight into the electrical junction box which subsequently blew up. We didn’t stay in that place too long.

 

Whenever the rains come you’ll often find that the older more robustly built houses seem to withstand the elements a lot better. There were fewer built and there was more focus on quality finishing. Unfortunately a lot of the new builds have had poor finishing and leave the owners/ tenants with a substantial cleaning bill.
